Intra-Oral Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma in a Young Male

چکیده
Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is one of the most common salivary gland malignancies. As its name implies, MEC is composed of a mixture of cells, including mucus producing, epidermoid or squamous and intermediate cells. It’s the most common malignant tumor in the parotid (60-70% cases). MEC appears mostly as asymptomatic swellings in minor salivary glands, which being the second most common site of occurrence after the parotid gland, it can be located on palate, in retromolar area, floor of mouth, buccal mucosa, lips, and tongue . Some of the case reports have been reported in the rare sites such as nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, nasopharynx, oropharynx, larynx, vocal cords, trachea, lungs and lacrimal glands. Wide surgical resection should be carried out, followed of post-operative radiotherapy, chemotherapy for the intermediate and high grades, and for low grade tumors surgical resection is the treatment of choice. Cervical clearing should be performed in cases with regional metastases, advanced clinical staging or high histological grade. Postoperative tumor recurrences are marginally more common in high-grade than in lowgrade mucoepidermoid carcinomas. We present a case of Mucoepidermoid carcinoma in a young male who presented with a solid to cystic mass in the intra-oral region/hard palate which is an unusual site. CT scan revealed Intra-oral pleomorphic adenoma, repeated fine needle aspiration cytology showed only thin to thick straw colored muco proteinaceous fluid which created confusion between chondromyxoid material of pleomorphic adenoma and mucinous component mucoepidermoid carcinoma. The diagnosis of mucoepidermoid carcinoma was later made on histopathological examination (HPE).

The Importance of Radiographic and Histologic Correlation in Diagnosis of Intra-Osseous Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma
Central mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) of the jaws is rare and it comprises 2–3% of all MECs reported in the literature. It may be similar to a glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC), mainly in incisional biopsies. The precise diagnosis of these lesions is essential since they have different treatment modalities and prognosis. This paper presented a 71-year-old male patient presented with a unilocula...

Introduction: Central mucoepidermoid carcinoma (CMEC) is a rare primary intraosseous bony lesion. The mandible is more commonly affected than the maxilla. CMEC is frequently misdiagnosed radiographically and clinically as a benign odontogenic tumor or cyst. Case Presentation: We present a rare case with a secondary malignant neoplasm. A male patient was initially diagnosed with B-cell non-Hodg...

Introdouction: Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is one of the most common salivary gland malignancies. The prevalence of salivary gland tumors varies in different geographic areas. In this report, we evaluated the prevalence of MEC in Iran and compared it with that previously reported in other countries. متن کاملA Comparative, semi-quantitative Evaluation of Myofibroblasts Between Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma and Pleomorphic Adenoma Using α -Smooth Muscle Actin Marker
Abstract Introduction: Myofibroblasts are the main stromal components that constitute the desmoplastic reaction of host cells to inductive stimuli exerted by tumor cells. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the score of myofibroblasts using α -smooth muscle actin marker (α–SMA) in mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) in comparison with pleomorphic adenoma (PA)and study the amount presence of t...
متن کاملPrimary salivary type lung tumor: Mucoepidermoid carcinoma
Primary salivary type lung cancer are extremely rare intrathoracic malignancies. Mucoepidermoid tumor is one of the salivary gland tumor which originates from submucosal glands of tracheobronchial tree. These are very slow growing low grade malignant tumors. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment and rarely requires adjuvant therapy. In this case report, we describe a case of a young male who pre...
